How do I use my germination kit?
Your kit contains 3 reusable trays that fit together.
Grow mats are single use . They are made from 100% compostable hemp fiber.
Your kit contains two mats 25 x 25 cm and 6 mats 113 x 75 mm . (about 0.5-0.7 kg of fresh microshoots)
Germination process:
1. Place the draining gray tray (with holes) on a black tray without holes
2. Place a 25 x 25 cm mat or six 113 x 75 mm mats on your gray draining tray
3. Wet the carpets using a sprayer so that they are well dampened
4. Sow your seeds on the damp carpet(s) by sowing densely so as to obtain a homogeneous sowing, spray.
5. Cover your seed tray with the second black tray without holes to create dark conditions for seeds to germinate (3-5 days).
NB: Mist your seedlings daily, making sure to keep the mats and seeds moist throughout the germination process
Ensure good germination conditions (ambient temperature 15 to 20 degrees, darkness, humidity)
As the seeds begin to germinate many "threads" will form. It's normal; they are root hairs emanating from the roots of the seeds. Spray them daily (1 to 2 times a day).
Culturing
The germination phase ends when the majority (90-100%) of the seeds have germinated , ie they have produced a root and a stem. This is the time to expose them to a light source (on a window sill, a balcony, in the sun or under bright neon lights or LEDs).
Depending on the light level, the growth can last 7-12 days.
Be sure to keep the mats moist during this time by irrigating the bins. To do this, simply pour water into the black retention tray so that the carpets absorb the humidity from below. At this point you no longer need to spray them.
When the plants reach 5-8cm you can start cutting them with a scissor or a sharp knife to consume them as you need them.
If you are growing on small mats (123 x 75 mm) we advise you to place them in white cardboard trays to facilitate their "holding".
The growing equipment we offer and the process are fun and will allow you to learn about growing these superfoods at home with ease.
Perfect to do with kids who love microgreens!
